R8 000 is where the rules change
Short-term credit under the National Credit Act means up to R8 000, repayable within six months. Inside that boundary a specific set of maximum charges applies. Above it you are in a different credit category with a different cap structure, and a loan of R10 000 is not simply a larger version of a loan of R5 000.
That is why the pages either side of the boundary read differently. Below it, the arithmetic is fixed and the question is affordability. Above it, the rate becomes a real variable and the quote you are given matters more than any published maximum.
