ZarCash compares loan offers from NCR-registered credit providers and may earn a commission when you apply. Every offer names the registered lender behind it. How we make money

Loans for appliances in South Africa

This is a genuine comparison with two legitimate answers. Store credit is convenient and sometimes carries a real interest-free period; a cash purchase funded by a loan often buys the item cheaper. The comparison that settles it is total cost against total cost — including the cash discount you can negotiate.

Check these three things before you sign — here or anywhere

  • The lender’s NCRCP number is published on its own site, and it checks out in the National Credit Regulator’s register.
  • The pre-agreement quote breaks out the total cost of credit: interest, initiation fee, service fee and VAT — as one figure you can compare.
  • Nobody asks you for an upfront “release fee”. A registered credit provider never charges you before it pays out.

What makes this different from ordinary borrowing

Store credit is regulated credit under the National Credit Act, with the same disclosure requirements as any loan: it must show you the interest, the initiation fee, the monthly service fee and compulsory insurance on a pre-agreement quote. A genuine interest-free period still carries those fees, so interest-free is rarely free.

A cash buyer has negotiating room a credit buyer does not, and the discount on an appliance bought outright can be substantial. Compare the discounted cash price plus the cost of your loan against the total payable on the store agreement.

Whichever route you take, the compulsory insurance on store agreements is the line item most often overlooked and most worth querying — ask for it quoted separately.
